This busy fishing life
This past week has been really busy and started with a feature day on the 15th to Pochard Lake in Bucks along with Jeff Prest from Trout Fisherman. Meeting up with Ray and memories from old days at Avington was a brilliant start to the day. It was flat calm and very quiet with dead clear water. Perfect for me to pick out some great fish for the camera and the job was soon done. Gorgeous lodge and a good day despite the joys of the M25 and M1.
Couple days later it was a charity event at Avington for Breast cancer research and again in delightful weather. Fun day with some good friends, Hywel Morgan, Keith Arthur and James Stokoe. We did our best to get everyone into fish and the whole event was filmed for BT Sport.
Another two days (Sunday 19th) and down to Ardingly in Sussex for the annual iFish show. My friend Alan Wood did the driving and both he and Sue reckoned that the most I managed was 4 steps before someone had stopped me for a catch up chat. Busy busy day and nice to put a bit of time to Albury Estates stand and let Cameron Craigs have a short break. A good show and well put together.
Very next day and I’m picked up at 7am to head off to Dever Springs for a guided day with John Butler. Not too bad for weather although visibility always tough this time of year. Several fish quietly rising first thing and we changed flies a few times until an orange hopper fished in the surface did the trick with a lovely 5 – 4 brown. That’s the way to kick off a day and John had a couple more 5lb rainbows while we spent a lot of time trying for a big brown. Finally, late in the day a magnificent 14 – 2 brown was the reward. Incredible battle and John was an ace to keep it under control. That’s what I call a successful day.
