It’s MAY and Spring is here at last

2nd May 2018

Everywhere greening up and looking gorgeous, the birds are all busy nesting (some have babies already) and insect life is on the go. Should be the hawthorn fall this coming weekend and then the rivers will all come to life too.
So, what have I done these past weeks? Well a special day was driving down to Sutton Bingham reservoir to meet with my long time friend Charles Jardine who had just completed a double marathon and had to finish with a fish. The ace he is he achieved his goal and raised loads of money for his charity.
Did a lovely feature day for the magazine at Frensham fishery in Surrey and that’s out next issue and next day was the Fishery managers get together at Meriden and I talked myself into doing loads of work, but it’s in a good cause.
Then a talk near Basingstoke for the wealthy Gresham Angling Society which was ‘interesting’. Some guided days which have been fun, especially seeing a giant Dever brown come up for the fly of my pal Dave Woods, only to miss at the critical moment.
Went back to old haunts and did a teach in at Albury for Cameron Craigs who is making a great job of running the fishery and went on from there to have a quick carp on fly session at Newdigate. Cold and windy with rain but Stuart and I had a 12 pounder each so it’s a start. Then yesterday over to Bewl in Kent for a get together and a chance to share a boat with Charles. Lots of laughs and such a good time – it’s not all about catching fish.
Coming up is a guiding weekend and then a real busy rest of May.
