Canada, Great Bear Lake

For my own personal holiday these past eight years I have been to Canada's NW Territories to fish Arctic Grayling on Great Bear Lake with Plummers Arctic Lodges.

This, to me, is as good as it gets for my favourite fish and the lodge is a fabulous location with world class Lake Trout and Arctic Char fishing.

Look it up on www.CanadianArcticFishing.com and talk to me for first hand information.

Although this trip really makes me single minded because of my fascination with grayling I'm very happy to have others along and will help best I can to give you a good time but you need to be aware that I have a grayling obsession.

A 10lb laker on a six weight from the shore.

Costs here are $4800 from Yellowknife which includes the lodges own charter flight from here to the lake.
Flights to Yellowknife from the UK are about £800 and an overnight hotel stop is needed at each end.
f you choose to do the char trip to the Tree River it's an additional $450 but you will genuinely stand the chance of catching a 20lb char.

Sunset from Great Bear Lodge

Nowhere else will give this opportunity and if you fish the lake (Great Bear) for the lake trout you can realistically expect 20lb fish on fly from the shore and by trolling from the boats you could contact fish to 70lbs.

Pike in the lake run to the mid 20s and the grayling to a truly genuine 3lbs with the outside possibility of larger fish as many World Records are credited to fish from this location.

Lake trout from the shore on fly gear are a fantastic fight, you need to be able to cast well with sinking shooting heads and big flies but you can have fantastic sport.

I am going back to Great Bear in August 2008 with a group of eight and there is likley still to be space if you want a real wilderness trip with creature comforts too.
